Aikido works it uses the some of the same throws as judo, and jujitsu i have been trained in them all and have used the techniques successfully in fights. It is more geared towards weapons so most people do not train the ground fighting part , because they do not plan to roll for a long time. Japanese jujitsu or Akijitsu the ssamurai’s martial forefather of Aikido has the ground fighting in it. Law enforcement and the millitary use Aikido or different techniques from Aikido for self defense, because it is practical. If they use it successfully then it works. It all depends on who teaches and how it is taught.
